The last real North American punk band, Fugazi have avoided becoming an anachronism by expanding the limits of the genre. Without engaging in obvious 'soloing' and posturing, a thoughtfulness, tension, and precision allows the songs to evolve in unexpected but interesting ways. On this, thier sixth album, they continue to explore noise and distortion, Sonic Youth style, but always in complete control. A punk band (never charges more than $5 for a cocert, any where in the world), but one who's lyrics while political, remain oblique, and who don't shy from the odd 'pretty' chord progression, before screaming in your ear again.
