DAvid murphy band prague

Playing the best American blues, funk and soul this side of the Atlantic.

The band funks out on an assortment of tunes ranging from original funk-blues fusion to sweet R&B and classic Texas and Chicago blues. Powered by soulful guitar and driving vocals, the DMB encompasses a unique blend of musical styles befitting their trans-Atlantic roots.

Inspired by legendary artists as diverse as BB King, Maceo Parker, George Clinton, Freddy King and the Rolling Stones, the DMB enjoys nothing better that getting the audience up out of their seats dancing. Since music is a celebration of life and culture, the band performs their concerts with a level of showmanship and flair reminiscent of the Blues Brothers and other great show bands eager to introduce new fans to great sounds. Whether you are a blues enthusiast, funk freak or like to dance all night, the David Murphy Band brings the spirit of the blues directly from Main Street USA straight to the heart of Europe.

History

The core of the band formed when Murphy met drummer Martin Prochazka at a jam session in Prague in 1999. Both agreed that the discipline of a Czech drummer and the true blues feel of an American guitarist would be the perfect combination for a rocking blues and funk band.

After months of working with numerous musicians trying to find the right groove, they realized the cure for what was ailing them was to "call the Doctor". Jan a.k.a. "Dr. Asner" Drasner joined the band on bass guitar, bringing with him his vast talent and years of experience as a professional musician. The last addition to the rock-solid rhythm section was the flair and groove of pianoman Honza "Hon?nek" Korselt. Hon?nek, who plays authentic boogey-woogey and roadhouse blues, is a torch-bearer of the Honspalka blues tradition.

When Chris "Elwood" Newman came to Prague from New York City it was only natural that he would bring his love of soul music, Chicago style harmonica and raspy vocals to complete the core of this powerhouse ensemble. The band then looked to round out its sound with a softer touch and add to its arsenal of stage-savvy performers. Perfect for this key task were the sultry vocals and feminine el?n of singer Katerina Vondr?ckov?.

The finishing touch for this blues-funk and souls show-band was the addition of a powerful, uptown horn section comprised of Luk?s Linhart on trumpet, Milan Kr?l on trombone and featuring the funk and jazz-inspired saxophone of Marek Bubel.

The David Murphy Band, with all of these different influences, from blues and funk to soul, rock and jazz; trans-Atlantic, boogie-chillun', and always ready to rip it up, has become a melting pot of styles and influences centered around the core of the blues and a love of good music. The David Murphy Band is based in Prague and is planning to release a CD in the fall as well as to continue to play around Europe and throughout the Czech Republic.
