Rivermaya, the Philippines' hottest music export - and most certainly the pride of Southeast Asian Music at the recent 2007 MTV Asia awards - held a concert here in Singapore on 8th April, Easter Sunday. This show was the first gig after their performance at the Channel V Party.

Rivermaya

A
favourite on the Asian music circuit, Rivermaya is made up of Blanco on vocals/guitar, Japs Sergio on bass, Mike Elgar on guitars and Mark Escueta on drums and have recently received accolades such as the "Philippines' Favourite Artist 2006" award for the second year in a row during the MTV Asia Awards 2006.

They also recently released their album "You'll Be Safe Here", from which the title track has received heavy airplay on local airwaves.

They were accompanied by other musical talents:

John Molina and Krueger, voted Best Rock Band in Singapore 2006, Power 98FM's Favourite Breakout Band, The Great Spy Experiment, who performed at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin Texas, Addiction, DXO's resident band and Flybar, who were champions of the World Battle of The Bands 2006.

On the day of the concert itself, Flybar kicked off the event with their lively performance, which saw the band wow the audience by accommodating passages of saxophone, viola and harmonica throughout their set.

Addiction kept the energy in the crowd going with their infectiously catchy covers of songs such as Lenny Kravitz's Are You Gonna Go My Way and Fergie's Fergu- licious.

Next up was the Great Spy Experiment, who wowed the audience with their energetic brand of music that the band described aptly as "a champagne-fuelled orgy of powerpop, indie, rock and dance, informed by everything except J-Lo".

John Molina and Krueger rocked the venue with more covers, ranging from timeless tracks such as Stone Temple Pilot's Plush, Radiohead's Creep, to some recent favourites such as Muse's Starlight.

When they ended their set with the Doors' Light My Fire, that was when all the people in the crowd knew that they were about to get what they came for: Rivermaya.
